2011 PLANET Annual Environmental Improvement Awards

CLASSIC LANDSCAPES, INC. RECEIVES NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT AWARD

Hampton, Georgia, November 8, 2011 – Classic Landscapes, Inc. is proud to announce it has been awarded an award of Distinction in the 2011 Annual Environmental Improvement Awards Program sponsored by the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET). The Award was announced at the annual Green Industry Expo in Louisville, Kentucky on October 28.

The private residence in south Atlanta boasts many items on Classic’s list of landscape features that clients ask for in their projects including low maintenance traditional southern plants, low volume drip irrigation, a pond-less waterfall, low voltage landscape lighting and dry stacked boulder walls that follow the architecture of the home with its use of stone.

“Out of approximately 3,500 companies we are excited to receive this award out of only 100 projects awarded in 2011. This honor speaks volumes about our team’s dedication to excellence that has sustained us through challenging economic times of late. Kudos to Dan Muchler, Blake Matthews and Clay Dent who had a direct impact on this property that made this award possible” explained owner and President John Newman.

Classic Landscapes, Inc. is south Atlanta’s premiere full service landscape company led by Newman. Newman is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s school of Environmental Design. After spending 19 years working in the industry, Newman launched the company in order to cater to the residential market in the south metro area. Newman had worked in the south metro area since the early 90’s and saw an absence of companies led by landscape designers and architects doing design/build. Design/build is a process in which the designer stays involved in the project from concept to completion and oversees not only the horticulture of the plan but also outdoor construction elements such as patios, pools, outdoor living spaces, outdoor kitchens, etc. The ongoing involvement of the designer during all of these phases of the project insures that the client’s original intent and vision is realized. This approach first garnered national attention in 2008 as Classic appeared on HGTV’s “Groundbreakers” television show.

PLANET’s Environmental Improvement Awards Program reflects the association’s commitment to creating and preserving the beauty of our landscape. The program is designed to reward independent landscape, lawn care, and interior plantscaping professionals who execute superior projects. PLANET strives to increase public awareness of environmental improvement through contracted landscaping, lawn care, and interior plantscaping and encourages the consistent use of quality materials and workmanship.

PLANET is the association of members who create and maintain the QUALITY OF LIFE in communities across America. With more than 3,500 member companies and affiliates, these firms and their employees represent more than 100,000 green industry professionals.

HGTV Press Release

CLASSIC LANDSCAPES, INC. FEATURED ON HGTV
Local Landscape Firm to be seen on "Groundbreakers"

Hampton, Ga. -- John Newman, BLA, president of Classic Landscapes, Inc. announced today that the firm is set to be featured on the HGTV program "Groundbreakers". This program follows landscape projects from concept to completion. The air date is Sunday, October 5, 2008 at 7:00 am.

Newman met the show's producer at a previous client's home and the producer asked Newman to contact them if he had any future projects which fit the show's requirement. Once Newman contacted the producer and described the upcoming project, they both knew that it was a perfect fit for the show.

Classic Landscapes, Inc. is South Atlanta's premiere design/build landscape company. Newman is a graduate of the University of Georgia's landscape architecture school. After spending 19 years working in the industry, Newman launched the company in order to cater to the residential market in the south metro area. Newman had worked in the south metro area since the early 90's and saw an absence of companies led by landscape designers and architects doing design/build. Design/build is a process in which the designer stays involved in the project from concept to completion and oversees not only the horticulture of the plan but also outdoor construction elements such as patios, pools, outdoor living spaces, outdoor kitchens, etc. The ongoing involvement of the designer during all of these phases of the project insures that the client's original intent and vision is realized.

The Fayette County project that Classic Landscapes, Inc. completed for HGTV is extraordinary. Some of the logistics include 1,500 bales of pinestraw, a tractor-trailer load of compost, 13.5 tons of stone in drystack walls, 34 pallets of Zoysia sod, 5 tons of stone for a boulder staircase, and a 75' pondless waterfall.

"This was an exciting project," states John Newman. "We were initially involved with this home almost two years ago when we helped site the house on the lot with the builder. We have truly been involved from conception." Newman also explains that "Groundbreakers" covers the client's story and a key component is participation by the homeowner. "We had to make sure that our client was willing to allow us to film and willing to be a participant as well," says Newman. Fortunately, the client consented.
